For many years, the private labour market was characterised by the regulation of employment relationships in collective agreements. One reason for this was the desire of the social partners to avoid government intervention, which could unnecessarily limit their freedom. In this spirit, a number of collective agreements were signed over the years and these have exercised considerable influence over both companies and employees.
